SHANNON Development is to spend €100,000 of taxpayers' money for a corporate box at the new Thomond Park stadium.
The company will pay €20,000 each year for the box at a time when many local companies are laying off staff.
There was public anger recently when it was discovered that the State training agency FAS had spent in excess of €100,000 on matches, concerts and associated entertainment in Croke Park over a two year period.
A spokesperson from Shannon Development said: "It is a marketing deal in which they will get several arrangements in terms of advertising and promotion."
There are 20 private corporate boxes in the Thomond Park €40m stadium.
