An innovative project was launched this week by the Professional Cookery graduating class of 2009 from Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT). Foodle.ie has proved to be a truly successful department wide project for its team. Produced as both a book and available online at Foodle.ie it hosts a range of tried and tested recipes, suited to all needs.

The entire project was designed and managed by students of LIT as part of a major interdepartmental project.

The web site and book reflect the areas that the students cover in the Professional Cookery Course where the focus was to make the web site appealing to all visitors, be they academics, non academics, students or someone looking for that unique, but easy-to-follow, recipe to impress their friends.

LIT prides itself on its central educational philosophy of active learning. Active learning means all students have the opportunity to reach beyond the theory of their subjects and apply themselves to the practical demonstration of what they are learning. A quick glance at the range and level of professionalism displayed in the recipes on Foodle.ie is a tribute to the application of active learning at LIT.

The students themselves have gone that extra mile showing future employers their level of accomplishment and commitment to their industry.

Dr. Maria Hinfelaar, president of LIT said, “LIT prepares learners for fulfilling and challenging futures, fostering the professional, intellectual, social, cultural and personal development of the individual. Without interdepartmental co-operation the Foodle.ie project would not have become a reality- Welcome to the LIT Family- Love IT, Live IT, Learn IT!”
